The Right to Education - Syria
In this video you can see a close relative of a young girl who was killed in Syria whilst walking to school. She insisted that she went to school because she wanted to learn. She wanted to become a doctor. However, a barrel bomb was thrown. She ran to seek cover but the shrapnel and pressure of the bomb made the buildings around her collapse and she was killed.
In Syria over 10,000 children have been killed since the conflicts began. Unfortunately these innocent children are being killed because there is an absence of the rule of law in this country. If the right to education is afforded to all children, Attorneys Without Borders believe the future of these countries would be much brighter. Education is the way to progression.
Through education was can create a society that has a strong rule of law.The right to education is a fundamental right protected under article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is vital that all children, male and female, are afforded this right so that everyone in society can develop.
Freedom of Speech - Syria
In this video a Syrian refugee describes the current situation in Syria with regards to freedom of expression and speech. He explains that if you have an opinion that is against the regime, your life and the life of your family is in real danger. He knows people that have been tortured and killed because they have spoken out against the violence. His own nephew was tortured so severely that he has been left psychologically scared and permanently bruised.
Suppression of freedom of speech is far too common. The harsh reality is that for many freedom of expression remains a distant dream. People are in fear of the consequences they may face if they express a view that is not shared with that of the government or public bodies. People remain silent not because they want to, but because they have to, for their own safety and the safety of their families.
Societies need to be made aware that freedom of expression is a fundamental right enshrined in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human rights. People should not live in fear of the consequences they may be faced with if their express an opinion.
Human Rights - Universal Declaration of Human Rights
This video explores the basic human rights that each individual is entitled to for simply being a human being. It also explains why the Declaration of Human Rights was created and the various rights that are protected under this Declaration, however recognises that such rights are not protected all over the world and human rights abuses are widespread.
Our organisation aims to promote human rights and educate those who are not aware that they have these basic rights.
